Working closely with it’s primary customer, the United States Army’s Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center, FirePoint™ Innovations Center at Wichita State University serves as a hub for government, industry and university collaboration.

FirePoint provides an ideal environment for innovators from across the globe to connect, forge partnerships and harness their collective power to help the Army accelerate the development and deployment of tomorrow’s advanced technologies.


FirePoint™ is housed within Wichita State’s brand new, 143,000-square-foot Experiential Engineering Building, giving clients access to more than 25 labs—from aerospace structures to vehicle design—and GoCreate, a community makerspace with the tools, technology and resources to bring their ideas to life.

Since 1985, WSU’s National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) has built a reputation as the most capable university-based aviation research center in the country, providing research, design, testing, certification and training to the aviation manufacturing industry, government agencies and educational entities.

NIAR features:

  • 320,000 square feet of research and office space
  • More than a dozen labs—from additive manufacturing and crash dynamics to virtual reality and the Walter H. Beech Wind Tunnel
  • The FAA Center of Excellence for Composites and Advanced Materials (CECAM) and the National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP)
